Hi,
I am building the above with some stained glass inserts. I laminated some well stickered seasoned pressure treated pine for the internal frame. It will be weather ply surfaced over “hollow” frame to keep it light. Stickered and left the stock for further 2 months. Most of it has bowed and is now useless. Can you suggest a better wood for the frame which is light, dimensionally strong and which will survive the rigors of outdoor elements?
Cheers

Hi LonesomePine,
To answer your question, I'd say cedar is going to be your best choice for a project like this. It is an ideal solution versus some of your other options. Cedar is lighter than Ipe, and less expensive than mahogany.
Beyond that, you might try re-evaluating your stickering process, as that may have had something to do with the amount of twist you encountered.

Dear Matt,
Thanks for your prompt answer, I'm a bit new to this. Would that be any type of cedar..... spanish, western red or others I have seen?
Thanks
Lonesome
I believe Western Red Cedar is the common variety that you would find at a local building supplies store or lumber yard.
