I am redoing a kitchen pantry with 3/4″ melamine and would like some advice on the preferred method of joinery. I intend to make a carcase which will have adjustable shelving inside. Since the shelves will not provide and structural support I want to pay special attention to the carcase joints. What is everybody else doing to join melamine?

For wall cabinet boxes as high as 30", I don't use any fixed shelves. Dado(rabbet?) top, bottom, and back into sides. For 42" high cabinet I included fixed shelf, in part to separate upper 12" and lower 30" doors. For the 8' pantries I built for our kitchen, I made each of 3 separate boxes, mainly so I could handle by myself.

For a pantry unit I make the carcase using biscuits & screws on the top & bottom, & usually fix one shelf at about bench height to keep the sides from flapping around, the rest are mounted on shelf supports in line bored holes. As I use Euro hardware the door hinge mounts are set in the same line of holes as the shelves (37mm back from front edge). Outside panels are fitted on site & the unit is mounted on a seperate levelled kicker ensuring that the weight of the pantry sides (& all the stuff in it) is borne by the kick. Fix firmly to the wall.
BTW if you are making the pantry up off site check door openings against the projected dimmensions of the unit (for fairly obvious reasons)

Thanks for all the great advice. I'm going to start assembly soon and plan to use many of the tips you all provided.
