I just wanted to post a message for you all to have a very Merry Christmas and be safe. I wish you and your family all the best!
I really wanted to post a message that stated “Merry Christmas”. I am so tired of hearing “happy holidays”. I for one am an American that lives in the United States and myself and my family have not forgotten what Christmas is all about.
Best Wishes to All of you!

I'm with you.
Merry Christmas!
Just some holiday food-for-thought from an American, non-fundamentalist, Christian white guy.
"I really wanted to post a message that stated "Merry Christmas". I am so tired of hearing "happy holidays". I for one am an American that lives in the United States and myself and my family have not forgotten what Christmas is all about."
What, exactly, is Christmas all about? According to the Bible, Jesus was born in the month we call October. And, nowhere in the Bible will you find the word 'Christmas'. That's because it's a made up hoilday; created by opportunistic white people. The only holidays/festivals on the Christian calendar (to the best of my knowledge) that are actually "Holy" and whose observance is commanded by God are: Passover, The Feast of Unleavened Bread, The Feast of Penecost, The Feast of the Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, The Feast of the Tabernacles, and the Feast of First Fruit. The birth of Christ, while very important, is not a holy day as outlined in the Bible. At least not so much as it is expressly commanded by God to be observed. With that said, it could be, and is I'm sure, considered blasphemous to celebrate "Biblical" holidays that aren't actually in the Bible. You wouldn't just sit down and pen a new chapter for submittal to the Vatican... would you??
Sorry if I ruffled any holiday feathers. I just thought someone might be interested.
Happy Holidays.

You haven’t “ruffled” my “holiday feathers”. You have just reinforced the fact that there is always a giant pain to be found somewhere. I’ve just learned to laugh at the pains of the world.
I take it by pain you mean pain in the a#$? And by pain in the a#$ you mean me, or others like me who take a moment to learn the truth behind a commonly accepted _________ . You can fill in the blank.
I don't know why it would be considered a pain to learn something new. Or to know the truth about something that you thought you already had figured out. To live is to learn.
Maybe laughter is the best medicine. For blissful ignorance.
I just thought such a bold and un-informed statement could use a bold response."Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines and dates by which bills must be paid." - Frank Zappa
Ignore the clowns, and the trolls, they get off on tweaking the grown-ups.
Merry Christmas to all.

TJW,
No need for name calling to those who don't believe the way you do. You behave like those you are criticizing.

It's Christmas eve in Israel, and out my back door I can see the lights of Nazareth twinkling in this clear night air. For me personally, an occasion to ponder on the messengers sent from time to time to our curious planet. And time to sincerely wish for all of my Christian friends, a Peaceful and Meaningful Christmas.from the other carpenter of the Galilee,

So true David. That carpenter still intimidates people today, even though that ins't His intent.
Christmas. When God came to earth in the form of Jesus. It really should be celebrated always.
Have a Merry Christmas.

Well said.
A bad day woodworking is better than a good day working -- yes, I'm retired!
Since you’re writing from Israel and are not a Christian, I assume there is a good chance you’re Jewish. If my assumption is correct be aware that I live in a part of the US where there are no synagogues nearby. Although I’m sure I’ve met Jewish people in my life, I’ve never known anyone as a Jewish person. I know that Jesus was a Jew and for this reason my heart will always be with the Jewish people. I firmly believe the United States has been blessed because of our support for Israel.Sorry if I sound too preachy, but you guys go through a lot over there and deserve some kind words. As I recall your former prime minister Golda Meiyer said something like - there can be no peace in Israel until Israel's enemies learn to love their children more than they hate the Jews.
"To the best of my knowledge" the Nativity of Our Lord has been both a Holy Day and a Feast Day in the Church of England for centuries, so described in the Book of Common Prayer.

I should have defined Bible as Old & New Testaments."Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines and dates by which bills must be paid." - Frank Zappa
You don't ruffle my feathers, I respect your point of view but choose to igore it. I have noticed though that even the most active dissenters of Christamas still manage to accept a paid day off and any Christamas bonus that comes their way.
Merry Christmas to all and may God's blessing be on you.

Understood, and my intention was not to discourage anyone from celebrating. I'm just sharing knowledge. Truth. I didn't make this stuff up. I for one enjoy the holidays, and might very well enjoy a paid day off and Christmas bonus if I weren't so hard-headed as to think that self-employment was the best idea.
Let it be known that I am not a Christmas dissenter. Just like FWW magazine (see current discussions under "Magazine Feedback") some people like certain information; others do not."Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines and dates by which bills must be paid." - Frank Zappa
I too like as much information as possible, but you should realize that there is a timing problem here. After all you wouldn't go to the grave side service of a drowned child and impart the knowledge to the parents that if they had taught the child to swim they may have been able to prevent his death.
Jack
That's not necessarily true. It all depends on the circumstances surrounding the death of said child.
That's too vague and irrelevant an analogy to make me think... "you know, he's right, I should have further considered the timing of that statement."
It's no more inconsiderate of me to post what I did than for the original poster to make the assumptions he made of his prospective audience. For one thing, this is not a forum for religious discussions. Keep in mind that I did not start this thread, I only made a response to what I believed to be an obtuse statement. "Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines and dates by which bills must be paid." - Frank Zappa
I would not classified a statement based on religion, faith, or personal feelings as an obtuse statement. Well I have to go get ready for Santa have a wonderful and prosperous day.

I wasn't replying specifically to his statement of faith or belief. I was replying to his rash generalization of "Americans".
If you would like further information please feel free to ask. Otherwise, I'm off to prepare for tomorrow as well.
You have a wonderful day, too."Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines and dates by which bills must be paid." - Frank Zappa

Amen, With the Believers !
And HO HO HO because there was a St. Nick ;-)
I don't have to be politically correct when it comes down to what Christmas is all about. Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!
Bruce S.
Pastor Freak,
You mention: "I'm just sharing knowledge. Truth. I didn't make this stuff up".
I was wondering: do you know which particular gang of humans did make it up? There are so many sects and tub-thumping blokes telling me they have the "Truth", I got really confused. (No I didn't). ;-)
Surely Christmas is for loving your friends, families and anyone else that isn't intent on burning you at their stake? (Whilst being a Good Consumer of course). Or is it still 1157?
Lataxe, not one of The Elect, probably because he is descended from an amoeba, along with the other star-stuff.
If you're interested, I have the Truth. I'll trade it to you for some tools if you're interested.Merry Christmas! Even to the politically correct and historically misinformed parade rainers-on.
---Pedro
Pedro,
You offer: "I have the Truth. I'll trade it to you for some tools if you're interested".
Well, I need all my tools, except perhaps the drill press mortiser attachment and that dowel jig. Still, TheTruth is probably a fair exchange for such questionable items, as I have a feeling it will be equally disappointing and not as advertised. :-)
I like cosmology, you know; especially as even the latest flavour is still mystified about them tiny "moments" just before that Big Bang (or The Phantastic Phut, as I prefer to think of it). Of course, there might have been a big white-bearded desert-dwelling patriarch lighting the phut-phuse but this seems unlikely..........
I favour the "It was The Mice and the answer is 42" theory, as you obviously do. (I imagine this is that Truth you were hoping to swap for my lovely Wenzloff's, you naughty scientist).
Meanwhile, life goes on, except where wild-eyed religious blokes be busy snuffing it out for one "reason" or another. Still, a Happy New Year to All, even the wildmen and libertarians (they are quite friendly folk at bottom and just need a big hug).
Lataxe,
a tiny blip in the great evolutionary process (automatic, no liability accepted for awkward events by any Big Desert Dweller at the Other Side of The Phut).
All,
Coming to this late, hope you all had/ have/will have a happy Christmannukwanzamadan. Solstice. Yule log burning. Whatever.
Some of y'all remind me of the crocodile in a comic strip I saw last week. Told that the Zebra neighbors were coming over for a visit, he said something along the lines of, "This is season of peace and joy. Why I have to spoil by seeing enemy and be nice to him?"
Blessings to all,
Ray
Merry christmas
Merry Solstice and a Happy New Year------------------------------------
It would indeed be a tragedy if the history of the human race proved to be nothing more than the story of an ape playing with a box of matches on a petrol dump. ~David Ormsby Gore
And a very Merry Christmas to you too! And Merry Christmas to all the other posters who have taught me so much this past year.

For those that do not want to preach, I will gladly fill the gap:
"Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.
But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."
So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: " Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel,' which is translated, "God with us."
Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife. And did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called his name Jesus.
Matthew 1:18
Merry Christmas, and best wishes to All for a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Interesting that you would choose this forum with it's diverse members of differing nationalitys and faiths or lack thereof to post your rant.
Peace on earth, goodwill to all. Even the intolerant, bigoted, nationalistic, narrow minded christofascists.

Be kind Dgreen, everyone needs their own myths to make it through the day, just like you're ultra conservative beliefs:)

First time I've ever been labeled ultra conservative! I always thought I leaned libertarian!

I thought maybe it was a dig for that article on Rudy I linked to from The American Conservative!
I haven't started on the eggnog yet, but I'm having some Baileys in my coffee!------------------------------------

dgreen,
Interesting that you post your rants, as you call them, regarding your opinions and attitudes in spite of telling others they shouldn't do that.
Woodman simply wished everyone merry Christmas and told us his beliefs. Had everyone simply replied in kind, or held off on the personal attacks, the post would have been pleasant and ended soon.
Seems it would be nice to just enjoy the diversity, knowing that it will differ in many ways from how you or I believe.
Interesting, also, how so many preach tolerance and then are so intolerant of anyone who disagrees with them, or takes a particular stand.

Where exactly, did I tell others they should not?------------------------------------
