Guess old age has overtaken me. I could have sworn I saw a set of metal workbench legs somewhere. I checked the local Woodcraft. They thought they had them but couldn’t find them. Went to Lowes, Home Depot. No dice. I also recall seeing a picture of a workbench with a set of metal legs. Possibly on this forum but couldn’t find that either.
Any ideas where I could find these legs? They are angled legs with stretchers. The tables I’ve seen them on look to weigh a good amount.
My intention is to put an old thick door on them to serve as a temporary work surface.
Thanks,
BBR

Lee Valley sells cast iron bench legs.

http://www.mcmaster.com also has a couple of types. One is heavy gage sheet and the other is angle iron. Not pretty, but effective.
I don't know about strength though. The stationary angle iron legs are only good to six tons.
I just finished a workbench with a pair of the Veritas cast iron legs. I was really pleased with them! The fit and finish is excellent, and they are heavy and solid once you put the stretchers on them.
It was probably in "Rockler". Sears may also sell them, tool stands.

Well, over on http://www.grizzly.com there is either this:
http://www.grizzly.com/products/item.cfm?itemnumber=h2612
which is rated for 5000#, or this:
http://www.grizzly.com/products/item.cfm?itemnumber=g9924
which is supposed to be rated for 2000# (not sure I'm buying that...).
They've got a couple other options; the easiest way to view them would probably be to open the catalog page in your browser (pgs 240, 241).

Home Depot sells a metal rack that has steel legs perforated with keyholes that thinner steel rails hook into. The shelves are pressboard. The expensive model (I think $69 when I bought them a half dozen years ago) is rated for 1500 pounds. It comes in sections which can be stacked on top of each other for 6 ft shelving or separate as two 3 ft tables.
I use one as an extension to my small workbench and am very pleased with it. (I had to rest the workbench legs on 3x3s or 4x4s so that the tops were level with each other). I use the shelves below to hold vinyl cabinets with drawers for tools, fittings, etc.
I use the other half of the rack as the worksurface to support scroll saw, disk sander and grinder and the shelves below for storage.
Found these and thought they look nice. The guys over at the SawMill Creek forum seem to like them..........plus they seem to have a lot of ergonomic advantages....
