I a buldling a desk top that will not be skirted, in other words just a plain top 1 inch thick. I would like to mount a small drawer underneith for pencils etc. Might also make it a pull-out keyboard pad instead of a drawer. Any ideas on how to mount the drawer from the underside of the desktop and leave the sides clear of hardware so they look good from the sides.
Thanks

Supply more details eg is the top solid wood?
Top is a 1 inch boards edge glued. Wood is Bubinga and Lacewood.
how about a box with a drawer in it...would hide back, sides, and bottom of drawer...would only increase the physical size of the drawer by the thickness of the sides and the clearance required for the slides...
How about mounting slides on the top edges of the drawer itself? Something like the Accuride 2109? Mount that inside the drawer box, mortise in the mount plates, and you'd see nothing when the drawer was closed.
Use a sliding dovetail to connect the drawer sides with a cleat screwed to the underside of the top. Make the dovetails loose and wax them well. The opening distance of your drawer will be limited but you can increase that by extending the length of the sides.
How about L shaped cleats screwed to the top and square cleats glued to the sides of the drawer. If the L cleats are angled slightly the drawer wont come out too far in front but can be removed from the back if need be.
