I like to thin my finishes some times and have used mineral spirits in the past which was clear. However, now the available “orderless” mineral spirits has a milky white color which effects the color of the finish. Is this a different product called white spirits? It seems like the milky white mineral spirits is the only type now available.

You in California? I am ,difficult to get somethings here though I haven't as of yet not been able to find mineral spirits. Sunnyside still makes it. California with its big economy knows that it can create a rule ...super low voc products for example and that it will effect the whole country. California forced airbags in cars....40 million people but probably 80 million cars! I couldnt get a fuel pump for my truck from out of state," Can't ship to California" ,that is until I called the Texans who could give three sh##s about California...denatured alcohol disappeared here but came back labeled "fuel". I would, if I were you, try better paint stores as opposed to hardware stores. It seems everything is still available but maybe only on a commercial scale. I can't get a pound of plastic resin glue but I apparently can get a 300 pound drum no problem. I've asked for a gallon of things and been told they can only sell to me in quarts....so give me 4 quarts. But yah, that milky white stuff is weird and suspect, cleans brushes ok.
No one, government etc. has ever stopped anyone from getting something if they want it bad enough, guns ,drugs, missiles ,endangered species. I imagine if you have the cash a person could probably buy a thermosbottle full of plutonium! so keep looking.
Thank God if California forced air bags in cars.
For a pint you may want to try an arts supply store, it is sold here in Canada as Isosol and is clear and odorless.
thanks
