I made my first coffee table without plans. I used, as a guide the plans from a French table. Believe it or not, I reduced the top to the correct size but failed to reduce the apron. Thus, I have an apron that is glued to the legs but too large to attach to the top!
The top is trimmed in mahoney and the table made from Cherry. The only idea I have is to cut the apron, take out sufficient cherry to reduce the length and width and insert some mahoney (to match the top trim) to rejoin the cherry aprons. This sounds like a lot of work. Can you think of any better ideas?

If you can't take apart the leg and apron assembly so that you could shorten the aprons by trimming the ends, then your solution will work. It is a time honored woodworking tradition to turn mistakes into design features.
