I currently have a 10 inch Rigid compound miter saw. Can’t stand it. The safety switch on the handle always sticks which leaves the saw running after I let go of the trigger. Any suggestions on a 10 inch slider or 12 inch model?

Clean or replace the switch??
I have that saw, but not the sticking problem. It sounds like something that should be reasonably easy to fix.
It would be nice if the saw had a blade brake, though. It takes forever to wind down.

As far as 12" CMSs go, I opted for the Bosch awhile back, after a great deal of consideration. While price played, as always, a central role, it had quality marks above others such as DeWalt, Ridgid, Craftsman. The Bosch has a nice large table, it's built like a tank, and the accessories (stock supports, extra clamps) were reasonbly priced.
Seems to me the new version has controls even more easily reached, and a laser, but I haven't looked for awhile. Mine has held its settings very well and is very accurate.
I love my Bosch 10" SCMS. I bought it based on seeing forrestgirl's previous postings on how well it worked for her. The fine tuning knob for the miter angle is worth the price of admission. I got a great deal on it at toolking.com , refurbished. One of the best tools in my shop.John
Hi,
If you can wait until spring time Festool will be releasing their Kapex miter saw. Can't say much about it as I have only seen it in online videos but like the rest of my Festool I'm sure it will be the best available saw on the market.
I have the Bosch 10" SCMS that only mitres in one direction. It's a beautiful tool, just as good as the dual direction ones, has a better depth stop, but is some $200 cheaper.
"...has a better depth stop...." On a miter saw? Not following that....forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)

The Bosch I have has an adjustable knob on the top so you can make cuts that don't go all the way through the stock. (Not the same stop that prevents the saw from cutting itself in half!) I can cut very clean tenon shoulders with this feature, which is useful since I don't have a tablesaw. I noted this feature on other saws but the stop on this model seemed the most solid.
Wow, that's a very cool feature, I could have used it on a couple of projects last year. If the 12" Bosch I have now ever dies, I'll add that feature to my list of things to have.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I sprung for the Makita 12" miter saw, LS1221 last year and got it for $275 cdn. It comes with an awesome blade (super clean cuts) and is accurate right out of the box. I don't care much for the hold down that it comes with though - when used on the right side of the blade, the post hits the motor and prevents the saw from doing its job. I would strongly recommend this saw.

" ...when used on the right side of the blade, the post hits the motor and prevents the saw from doing its job. " Same problem with the Bosch, and with other saws I've seen (but not used) too. Not sure how they'd get around that. Is there a saw with a hold-down that can snug in there close to the motor, yet not interfere.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
C, look for a good 12" as you may have several 10" or 7 1/4" saws as time goes by.I didn't need a slider as I have a 10"RAS or another 10" with a 10" contractors and a Unisaw. I picked up an older DW #705 12" one sided CMS and it is very good. I have the board clamp that drops into a post hole on the platform and pushes toward the fence. It has an acme screw quick release and looks so robust as it may have come from the track drive of an Abrahams tank. I also have a Sears Professional 12" ( a gift from an enemy) that I will use to cut off fence posts, treated exterior woods, non ferous metals and anything that would harm the 80 tooth blade on the dewalt. Get the message---it's a garbage saw, bad motor, ratty miter controls and fence, bad DC( most cms are poor) and noisy. Good luck, Paddy
ps. sorry for such a negative post(not really my style) but I am bummed that the Giants did not take out the Patriots--they were soooo close. But my Titans did good tonight. pfh
Try the Makita SCMS. It may be 12" but it performs great! If you read the reviews, the Makita usually stands out better than the Bosch.
