I recently purchased a Makita sliding compound miter saw. In using the saw, I am getting a lot of burning on the left side of the cut (as one faces the saw). Could it be that the trunion is out of adjustment? If so, seems as if a brand new saw shouldn’t have that problem. Moreover, I can’t find how to make a correction adjustment for this problem in the user manual. I will greatly appreciate input. Thanks. |

It is possible your machine has a bad saw blade--right from the get go. If it is cutting the work true and square, and that is the big if, try putting a different blade in it. The only reasons it would do this is being out of square (and this will show up in the work) or a bad blade.
One other thought. If it is square and still burns after changing blades then you are feeding too slow. Most people feed too slow around power tools with burning and excessive edge wear being the result.

many thank for your quick response. I have tried an expensive new blade (100 tooth) and it didn't help. It is dead-on square. I'll try your suggestion of moving the blade across the work a little faster.
There is a possibility that the head is moving straight up and down but is cocked right. The arbor would not be parallel to the table. Check squarness of both pieces as this might show up to some degree. You should be able to see this by putting a square against the table and the blade (allowing for carbide overhang, hollow grind of the blade, etc.) If that is the case you have a turkey and deserve a new one. With best regards,
