i’m 14 years old and i love woodworking. as with any 14 year old i am tight on cash and would like to buy a miter saw to help with cutting boards and 45 angles because especially 45’s can be very tedious with a straight edge and a circular saw and they don’t always fit. any suggestions on a low price but good quality miter saw.

A decent hand backsaw, and miter box, or a dedicated hand miter saw set up will both work quite well, and cost less than $50.
This Jorgensen's basic design has been around a long time, and proven itself capable of quality works.

Lowers and HomeDesperate both used to stock them and still may.
These come up on eBay:

Hi coltfan,
First off, WELCOME to Knots. Nice to see some young folks taking an interest in the world's greatest pastime. I frequent Breatime, at Fine Home Building across the alley. We have a new young enthusiast there who is also 14. His name is Andy and signs in as andyfew322.
In your quest for tools do not overlook prowling the neighborhood garage sales and estate sales and the classified ads. All kinds of good hand and power tools and you can sometimes bargain for the price, a bit. Check, too, in your local papers for woodworking clubs. Their members may have some things they haven't used in a while for a few $.
Good luck and keep us posted.

edit to add: Could you please fill in a bit of your profile. Nothing too personal, just what city you're in.

Buy the new Rockler table saw sled. You won't need a miter saw then.
I don't think coltfanru has a table saw....

BTW I have a pretty cheap Ryobi chopsaw, non-sliding. remember that all saws (ok most) can be adjusted, and that they need a good blade to get a good cut. when you get the new saw make sur you adjust it. Here's my shop http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2L1xyMBGtA
what's your's like?
