Hi,
I was wondering if it would be possible to make a box that is mitered all the way around (sides, top and bottom). I’d glue it up then cut it apart to make the lid/base. I assume the grain direction will cause problems on the top and bottom. Is there any way around that? Could I miter the top and bottom to the box sides using hidden splines without glue on the end grain and just a spot or two along the edge grain?
I know I could do panels on the top and bottom, but I like to experiment. Am I just asking for trouble?
Curiously yours,
kt

ktay,
Yes, you are asking for trouble using solid wood for this type of construction. You could use venered plywood and make the construction but solid wood will move. Gary
Thanks for your reply. Guess I'll go with veneer.
