Mixing edge, face, and end grain on cutting board
Hey everyone — working on a cutting board that’s a mix of 3 hardwoods. The board will be about 1 1/2 inch thick.
The design I’m planning has sections of face, end, and edge grains. Will the board have issues from the mixed grains?
thanks

It will probably blow itself to bits. Each of those will move in different directions across opposing planes. It will be a valuable "learning experience".
Generally these types of threads are followed by a "what happened?" thread. Wood movement can be your enemy in the best of situations. A board that will experience wet/dry/wet/dry conditions by design is not the place to break the rules. JMHO.
DANG IT. Alright big thanks. I’ll take the learning exp and sulk back To the drawing board.
I wouldn't mix face and end grain on a drawing board, either.
Heh.
