Hi. I was hoping to go to school on someone’s experience before I start doing anything.
I have a Nova lathe (dvr xp) that I would like to make mobile. It seems best to keep the legs on the ground when I’m using the lathe, so it seems that a side-mounted, retractable caster set would be best. I can’t find anything spec’ed for this lathe. Does anyone have a suggestion or pointers for this?
The legs are cast iron. There’s a hole in the bottom of each foot adjacent to the foot peg.
Thanks,
Mike

I had a delta bandsaw that I rigged like you are thinking...casters on hinges. I will contact the man I passed it on to for photos.
thanks!
Lift Lock and Roll Lathe Mobility System
I have it mounted to my PM3520A and it's made moving the 600lb machine around the shop easy as pie.
Took a little while to get the photos, but here is the setup... The wheels just hinge in and lift the saw. The screwdrivers are cut off and insert to lock the wheels up.
I’ve had a Nova 3000 lathe for 20 years. It has cast iron legs similar to yours. After several duo failures I came across casters similar to these https://www.vxb.com/2-36-inch-Adjustable-Height-p/60mm-caster-with-stem.htm. They’re not quickly adjustable but they work if the floor is clean under them. Since I’m tall I was happy to raise the lathe. The only problem was that one of the rubber feet was lost during a move. I just shim up that corner and the other 3 feet keep it in place. Spare parts are not available.
not mobile, but i attached my lathe to wall via door hinges and fold out legs, which allows to fold flat (ish) against the wall and thus takes up very little floor space.
