Don’t mean to sound snooty but if you’re selling something you might want to post in the Classifieds section of FWW. Folks looking to buy something generally look there so you might have more success.
Also if you’re interested, I might be able to hook you up with a friend of mine who has been making replicas of heavy equipment for a long time and is very good at it. Email me if you’re interested.

If you don.t mean to sound snooty, then maybe you should not have responded.
I get your point.
Wouldn't it have been easier to simply say "thanks, I'll think about posting it over there."
now, everyone is gonna be thinking . . "well, another newbie insists upon peeing into the punch bowl" . . .
jmho, ymmv, yada yada, suppose i ought to mind my own business, eh?
I didn't think Bob sounded "snooty" at all.

Acting like that will get you nowhere. Your website sucks and I'd never buy from you now
I am hapy to have people read my message without comment. If you people have nothing better to do than to be critical in a very snobbish way, you all must live in a very secluded world with nothing constructive to do. Lets see what you have to offer.
Secluded? Far from it, in fact I very much enjoy my woodworking hobby and the non commercial nature of this forum and all the great info shared by its participants. As for me I retired at 47 after I sold my mechanical contracting business and I can tell you I didn’t get there by acting the way you do. This is a FORUM, and you don’t want people to comment? Just what do you think a forum is? This is not a place for you to hawk your wares. I see you have a grand total of three posts here; maybe you need to read up on how to use it and come back latter. <!----><!----><!---->
Fortunately this forum has an 'Ignore' feature. Congratulations, you're #1!
Thank you
A moderator on the best woodworking foum politely tells you you posted inappropriately, offers you assistance and this is how you respond?
Roll up your plans very tightly, turn them sideways and you know the rest.

First, I like the tractor, second you need an attitude adjustment. I don't see how Bob could have been more polite in mentioning the classifieds.
Your comment was not justified, an apology to Bob is in order.

This is the good thing about forums. Everyone has an opinion and is entitled to it.
Not my cup of tea but Very detailed stuff and beautiful finish, best of luck. If you want to sell something you will want to post it over in classifieds.

lgrove, plain and simple: your post is in the wrong place. Apparently, you joined the board solely and specifically to advertise your goods. Wouldn't hurt to hang out for awhile, look around, and figure out how to post appropriately, and perhaps even contribute something.
Your response to Bob sounds quite defensive to me, and I suspect that's because you really do know that you're basically just using the boards for advertising purposes, which is not what they are intended for. Never mind the fact that you didn't even acknowledge his offer to connect you with another replica maker who's been in the biz for a long time.
If you're going around to a whole bunch of woodworking forums spamming them with advertising, rest assured you'll alienate way more people than you'll develop as clients. Way more.
A new member has been chastised for a minor offence of posting something that was deemed in the wrong location and was handled inappropriately and responded to in a negative fashion by a few members because he had acted in defense to a reply which he felt was an attack. Be his feelings right or wrong I believe the matter should have been handled in a more professional manner then it was.
Sorry you don't approve, Dusty. I simply don't have much patience with someone who joins up for the sole purpose of hawking his goods, and then gets all huffy-puffy when someone gently guides him to the appropriate place to do so.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
No I do not agree with the irresponsible treatment he has received.Why?1. He posted something for sale under the wrong header. I know of no rules broken here, if there was then the post should have been handled as set by the guide lines.
2. He took offence to a reply that he felt was a verbal rebuke. Sometimes a tongue-in-cheek reply can be taken that way. Miscommunications, how many times has that happened here? This is a free online community which allows its members to do and say things according to the guide lines set by the owners of this forum. The moderators have the responsibility to adhere to these guide lines and to set an example for the other members. Unfortunately there is no mention of the word ‘patience’ in these guide lines.I believe an apology is due Igrove for the treatment he has received. Either he is a subscriber to FWW or is potently. Either way he is a customer and he should be treated as such.
FWIW, I disagree. Posting commercial solicitations (aka spamming) on public forums has been deemed inappropriate for almost 30 years now. Most forums would delete the post and ban the poster. Thus, the treatment here was rather cordial by Web standards.
If such action was against the guide lines of this forum then why wasn’t the post in question handled accordingly to those guide lines and why is it still posted in the wrong section?
I could see how a newcomer could confuse the Project Plans/ CAD Software section for the place to make his post, and I could see how he could have misunderstood the tongue-in-cheek response he received. But I still hold that he should be treated with respect.
Dusty, we (the volunteer moderators) can only move threads within the main Knots forum. We do not have a mechanism to move something to Classifieds (though I will be asking if a way can be invented). I suspect the folks with the Secret Keys to do such a thing are too busy with other stuff, and just haven't seen this misplacement yet.
Anyone who would like to put some pressure on to move or delete it could click on Options below, select Report Violation and cite Spamming or Advertising as the reason.
I could, if I was feeling more cranky than I am right now (tired, short on sleep, too much to do and not enough time) delete the thread. But I won't. Not cranky enough -- yet. 8>)forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Hi Folks,
Sorry not to jump in here more quickly.
As people have mentioned, advertising is against the house rules: http://www.taunton.com/thetauntonpress/forums_hr.asp
If anyone wants to advertise on our site, they can contact our sales reps: [email protected] or they can make a post in the classifieds section: http://forums.taunton.com/fw-classifieds/messages
I deleted the initial post (this is what I do to all advertising posts that are reported to me--nothing personal against the poster) and am closing this string since it's strayed off the woodworking topic.
For those who started a discussion on models... I'd recommend starting up a new discussion.
Thanks,
GinaFineWoodworking.com
P.S. We are not able to move a post from Knots to Classifieds. Maybe one day... but can't now.

Igrove,
I find your tractor plans interesting. My Great Grandpa owned a number of steam tractors, he would lend them out to plow the neighbor’s fields and harvest their crops, early 20th century. He sold them during the Great Depress. I’ve been toying around with building a scale replica of one of his tractors out of metal, got my old Unimat SL of storage, but may try one out of wood first.
Anyway please forgive the comments you received, the Knots Forum has been going through some changes and hopefully things will get cleaned up pretty soon before they lose anymore members.
By the way the ignore option works both ways, I’ve used it on occasion myself.
