I have a pin type moisture meter I bought a few years ago I use for woodworking. I know its limitations for wood (measures surface moisture only). I also have several rent houses and have had occasional water leaks. Will my moisture meter work well for sheetrock? My guess is that it will. Any advice on this subject or things to watch out for would be appreciated. Thanks

It will work to show differences in drywall moisture, although the numbers won't mean much. I have used it successfully for this purpose.
Measure several places where you know the drywall to be dry and then compare those to the suspect areas. It does work.
Keep in mind that drywall has an EMC just like wood, so 'dry' will not be zero.
If you have wet sheetrock, you'll know it without using a moisture meter.
I have a non-pin meter that I use for checking apartments before the wall digging starts. It tells me which bay the wet is in without poking holes where it isn't. Mine is Ryobi model E49MM01.
