I live in a 250 year old house. I have a small room that is roughly 6ftx15ft that had a linoleum floor over the original wide board floor. When I removed the linoleum I discovered it has a musty smell with either mold and in some spots paint imbedded in it. I am planning on sanding it with my Festool sander to minimize the release of the mold into the air. Should I do anything before sanding to help eliminate the mold as I do not want to push the mold deeper into the wood fibers. The floors are southern pine.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I would hold on for a while- let me see if I can find out a good answer for you- that mold part worries me a little. My inclination would be to neutralize it before doing any sanding which would only spread the mold spores everywhere.

I spoke with my friend Teri Masaschi - who knows a whole lot more than I do! and she gave the go ahead on sanding- just make sure you are wearing a full respirator- (not just a paper nuisance mask)
