Hey remodel guy,
What’s the purpose of that big, blue tag line at the bottom of your post?
Only one on the page, and it doesn’t bother me, but still… ;-))

RG,
Like you said these boards or forums are indeed a nice place to learn and share our knowledge.
It is awful nice of Taunton to make this site available and for free as well , wouldn't you think there is some cost to provide this site to us ?
Whether we buy from the ads or we like them or not the site is still here and still free .
As we all know the costs of most everything is up and going higher, I would imagine the cost of providing / moderating / facilitating / and censoring this site have also risen with time.
Taunton is not making money on us or the majority of users , would you really want to deny them the opportunity to provide this site ?
None of us is being forced to be here, it's your choice !
regards dusty
RG,
Dusty is right on this one. The forum has to be funded somehow. FWW kept it ad-free for as long as they could I think. A minor inconvenience for access to a great resource.

"What's the purpose of that big, blue tag line at the bottom of your post?" It's not a link, if that's what you're thinking. Did you hover your mouse over it??
I take it the "advertising?" thread got crusty?? I haven't followed it since I said my piece on grumpy morning, LOL!!!
This is like deja vu, all over again.
"I cut this piece four times and it's still too short."
I hereby voice my concern, respectfully.
Now, to enable us all to avoid looking at an ad once in a while, I also respectfully request that you put a site together that you host and maintain, totally free of ads.
Thanks for you generosity!
;-)

I am really sorry that i started this post! for some stupid reason i thought we we're all like family most of all i didn't think i would get cocky remarks for voiceing my opinion. i will try to delete the post tomorro.....The Remodeling Specialist
Cool your jets, families don't neccesarily have uniform opinions. Develop a thicker skin and realize good people often have divergent views. Accept the fact that you may occasionally have a minority opinion, if you try and back track and delete it, one wonders about the strength of your convictions. If you think you are right then have the intestinal fortitude to debate the issue. If you are looking for a "family" that will agree with everything you espouse, try the town of Stepford. Enjoy and exploit the diversity here and participate in it.------------------------------------

man did you come way out of left field an I am not upset with anyone all I said is I did not need any bad attitudes an I am most definitely not looking for some stupid debate! I put a opinion out there some agreed some did not but very few had a bad attitude only two I can think of.
if it's important to you I will leave the post for a few days, I hope you enjoy your debate, if there is anything else I can do for you please feel free to e-mail me.
But really I hope you can move on I Did.........................The Remodeling Specialist
The only bad attitude I see on this thread is yours.------------------------------------

i want to think everyone for their input on this subject, an if i was rude to anyone i deeply applogize and i wasn't even trying to get everyone to agreement with me i beleive in the orginal post i pointed that out.
As for this site in my opinion it is one of the best an all the people here is very helpfull, Well i better shut-up before i turn this in to a tear jerker HA!
Hope everyone has a good day, I will be closeing tis Post Tommorro. Thank you for your time..........The Remodeling Specialist
We, that is my fellow countrymen, have the adds but not the opportunity, at least not without some effort, so are impartial.
I am happy so long as the language remains acceptable English. Not the spelling, which does not matter, but the sentiment which does matter. And I have to say that for colonials you are all trying very hard.

Remodel,
Sorry for my attitude. It was my left-handed way of saying that anyone in business wants to get the word out that his products are available, and that it's hard to fault anyone for wanting to make a profit. Didn't mean to get sideways with you.
Ray
RG,
Pure and simple, the ads are a pain. This site is great. I really appreciate it. But your critics should not imply that FWW doesn't generate business on this site even without the ads. The ads are just another new revenue stream--in addition to web-site subscriptions, promoting the magazine, promoting thier books, tool sales, enhanced magazine content, . . . whatever!
Turns out, the site is just another medium for promoting sales. Grab my attention and sell to me, sometimes without my noticing--e.g., the Nokia Sugar Bowl, the Degree All-in Moment, and oh, check out my current listing on ebay:
http:http://www.ebay.comjust_kidding.htm
Having said all that, I really don't notice the ads. (I'm more upset by quirks in site functionality--e.g., back button rarely works the way I expect it to.) And I really appreciate the advice and community I find on the site. So, for now at least, I'm in. When either I get sick of it or enough of you guys who know something about woodworking leave, I'm outta here.
As for all the complaining and pushing and shoving? Everybody, crack open your favorite beverage, take a deep breath, get back to chiseling.
My 2 cents,
Danny

<<...have the intestinal fortitude to debate ...try the town of Stepford>>Talk about debates! Katharine Ross or Nicole Kidman? Or beyond that, Ginger or Mary Ann? Betty or Wilma?Back on topic: advertising is a wonderful thing -- helps pay the bills and informs the customers and prospects -- everybody wins.(the correct answers are: Nicole, Mary Ann and Betty)
"the correct answers are: Nicole, Mary Ann and Betty)"Please, Correct? What a load! The correct answers are: Both, both and both. C'mon! This is America, where we can get what we want, when we want it, a lot of it, all the time.

High,

Is that the cake you been cuttin' four times? It may be short 'cause you ate some, of course. :-)
Lataxe, cake-haver & eater
"Is that the cake you been cuttin' four times? It may be short 'cause you ate some, of course."Only if cake is what is really wanted. Could be pizza, the big sandwich, anything, really.
"I cut this piece four times and it's still too short."
<<Both, both and both.>>You're a better man than I.
"You're a better man than I."The jury is still out.
"I cut this piece four times and it's still too short."
RG, it's no big deal, really! What you may not realize is that there's already been two long threads about the ads, one of them started by your's truly here. The subject has been beaten pretty much to death and it could be folks are just weary of it. (That's weary not wary, LOL! Tired of it)forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Didn't mean to be cocky -- that's why there was a ":-)" in the post.
Just trying to point out the necessity of ad revenue to support an expensive endeavor such as this forum since we have yet to identify a philanthropic individual with interests focused squarely on us underpriveleged woodworkers. ;-)
The ads started months ago -- if you're just noticing them now, they MUST be inconspicuous. So, for the time being, no big deal. If things go overboard, I'm sure the inmates will riot, and corrections will be made.

Remodel Guy,
I think I have a pretty tight family. My parents, two sisters and their families, three children who are married and their families. One grandson is married.
But, we do disagree on some things. Being family doesn't mean everyone agrees on everything.
According to your personal info you have been on Knots for over a year. I haven't seen any comments in this thread that come anywhere close to being cockey. Go read the Jointer Plane Question in the Handtool section of Knots. Comments there go way beyond being cockey. Surely in your year and a half on Knots you have also seen cockey.
As others have said, FWW and Taunton are in business to make money. They have provided us with Knots at no charge. I would hope you know that their purpose is to drive customers to their products -- subscriptions, books, DVDs, plans, etc.

At least they have kept the ads small and less distracting than some others I frequent. Yes, it could get worse, but er're not paying the bills for this site.
actually i am helping pay for this site along with many others but thats not the point mostly i was just curious about other wood workers thoughts. The Remodeling Specialist
I pay just to see what others do and sometimes I see something that paid for the cost of the year. I never use plans (not that they are bad) Just me....
