Greetings
I ripped out an old door frame in an opening as it was not square and installed a new jamb. I used my router to mortise the hinges before I installed the hinge side jamb.
I built a new door for the opening but since there was no door before I can’t transfer the hinge locations to the new door.
I tested the new door in the opening and marked the three hinge locations from the jamb to the door. I built a jig that sits on the edge of the door and plan to mortise the hinges with my router.
My concern is that the hinges will not line up precisely. Should I be concerned? Should I mortise the center hinge first and install the door and then check the exact location of the top and bottom hinges before I mortise them?
Thanks for the help,
Barry.

Hinges
Could you try and attach the hinges to the door edge flush without a mortise - one hinge at a time - using undersize screws. When It looks right mark around the hinges with a razor knife and than chisel the waste -

Place the new door in the new jamb. Use some shims under the door to jack it into it's proper position making sure to leave the needed space at the top of the door, a small spacer block can be used. Once the door is in position, use a utility knife to mark the tops and bottoms of each hinge on the edge of the door. Make sure your hinge mortices align with these marks.
Stick layout
Mill a stick say 1/2 X 1" the same length as the door.Position it in the jamb as you would wish thw door to hang. Transfer the mortise locations to the stick then aligh the stick on the edge of the door and transfer the marks to the door. Take a hinge apart or open it up and use it upside down like a layout square, the knuckle will aligh it at the edge. Align the leaf to the transfered marks and scribe the two short edges. A marking guage will do for the width and depth of mortise. A chisel and router plane work as well if not better for a few mortises. Why would you make a jig for three mortises?
Thanks for the useful information. God I love this resource.
PS I made the jig because I love designing and making them,

Well...OK then.
Good luck with your project
