I have recently built 4 mahogany boxes. During a recent home move, motor oil was spilled on the boxes. I re-sanded the boxes, however, motor oil still reside within the drenched material. The oil is through and through certain areas. Rather than tossing the boxes, I’d like to finish them. I’m considering an oil based mahogany color stain, and a Tung oil. Is this the best way to handle my motor oil mishap? I’d like the finished product to be as close to the natural color of the material, if possible. <!—-><!—-><!—->

TR,
Sorry to hear of your mishap. As you've seen, sanding won't remove the oil.
I would try using a solvent wash. Toluene, MEK, ( methyl ethel ketone) or lacquer thinner are three that come to mind. They are all toxic and nasty to work with in this fashion. Gloves, safety glasses and a respirator are in order when using these chemicals. Also be sure you have good ventilation.
I would soak a small rag and place it on the offending area. Put a piece of plastic over it to slow the evaporation and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Remove the rag and wipe off the area without smearing it all over. Keep the wiping confined to the oiled area. If your wiping rag shows any oil, repeat as above until it comes out clean. Be sure and hang the rags out to dry.
I can't tell you whether or not this will definitively work. Give it a shot and let me know how you make out.
If it does come out and you want to keep it as natural as possible, skip the stain.
