I am looking for a motorized jointer hand plane. I thought they used to make a motorized hand planer with a long sole to staighten the edge of boards. I have looked through all of my catalogs, but do not seem to find any.

Porter Cable makes a long shoe door planer known as the Porta-Plane. It is an excellant machine - a true Godsend to all finish carpenters. However, I have heard that Porter Cable has discontinued its production so you may have to look for a used one. Hope that helps - Nick
*Makita makes one. Home Depot carries them.
*Skil also makes a very low-end model available at Home Depot as well.
*I've got what you're talking about. It was made by the Stanley Works back in the 60's or early 70's. It was bought out along with all of Stanley's power tools by Bosh in the late 70's and was promptly discontinued. It has a router motor for power and a spiral cutter and a fence about 18" long. The fence can be adjusted for a straight 90 degree or an angle. I've never used it much but for an on the job tool or for jointing pieces that are too big to handle on a stationary jointer it can't be beat.
