Although I haven’t been here for a while, this is my second question today. I have the Rigid oscillating spindle/belt sander. I have not been able to successfully put the small diameter sanding drums onto the spindle all the way. No matter how hard I try, the drum goes part way onto the rubber spindle and stops. If I try harder, the rubber spindle compresses and expands jamming the sanding drum even more.
I’ve had some luck freezing the rubber spindle but it still doesn’t go all the way on. I also tried spraying silicone on the rubber but ditto – the drum still doesn’t go all the way on. This seems to be a problem only with the small diameter spindles – the 2″ and larger goes on OK. Anyone got a solution to this?

Mike,
Mine slide on pretty easily. Maybe your sleeves are slightly undersized. Can you get them on by tapping them from the top?

The sleeves are paper and they will swell with humidity. Keep them in a tightly closed plastic bag. A little baby powder sometimes works.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
It's been said already that the paper drums are subject to humidity. That said, I keep mine in the refridgerator (not freezer) as it keeps them dried out. Also, loosen the nut when not in use because over time the rubber will buldge out. And of course, if a tube won't slip off, 15-20 minutes in the freezer will ease them off.

Doesn't the smallest sleeve on that machine fit right over the spindle? May be a stretch, but try cleaning the spindle really good. I even put a drop of 3-1 oil on mine. Good luck!
