Multi-router vs Domino vs. hollow-chisel mortise debate
This may be an already over discussed issue but here goes….
Considering a Domino, a Multi-router, or a floor-standing hollow-chisel mortiser – I make a lot of mortise and tenon joints of all sizes;
If I could buy only one, what would it be?
If I could buy two what combination would it be?
My work consists of tables, including trestle tables, cabinets, chairs, and the occasional smaller ‘Christmas project” for family.
Thanks for your thoughts.

If its large mortices you are primarily concerned with, what about a slot morticer?
Agree
I think that a slot mortiser should be added to the list. It replaced the hollow mortiser in my shop and was a great addition.
I have both a slot mortiser and the domino. I used the SM till the domino came out and switched and not looked back. By far the easiest to use and compact as well. You can take it to the work instead of the work to the tool. If you need larger tenons, you can just put more than one and engineer the joint and it's plenty strong. I've loved mine. Now if you can have that second tool a large fixed mortiser might be nice, but I don't do a ton of entry doors so I just don't think it's practicle. My slot morticer is gathering dust.
My only contribution is that with Delta brand chisel-and-bit sets the Powermatic mortising machine makes square holes with curved bumpout on one or two sides. bit doesn't stay perfectly centered in the chisel. Fine for covered mortises but couldn't use it to make say a through mortise.
