I am new at this, so please bare with me. I recently became interested in making musical jewelry boxes. So far I have not had any luck finding a musical movement that does not cost an arm and a leg & that you can hear. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? The few I have tried were by Sanyko. I also sent them back. Thanks.

Have you checked Klockit?
Thanks for responding so fast. I am quite sure I was in touch with Klockit, but I will try again.
I just purchased a bunch of clock movements from them, happened to remember seeing music box movements in their catalog, and Klockit isn't very expensive. ;-) Hope you find what you're looking for.
I found exactly what I was looking for. Thank you
I think Sanyko/Seiki Orpheus and Reuge are the most commonly available movements. I used a 30 note movement from Rockler that sounds good. Part of the sound issue is where and how the movement is mounted. Asking for great sound and an inexpensive price don't go together. Most movements sound more robust when solidly mounted.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
You are so right, I do not think I tried the movements the way they should have been tried. I put it on the kitchen table & turned it on. I think I was having a senior moment. Thanks for your input.
I've had good results with the Sankyo 30 note movement, at cost of about 70 to 80 $. If you didn't test your movement while it was sitting on a proper sounding board then you might be surprised at how loud it can be. To go beyond 30 notes will cost your second arm and leg (about $375). Rockler has some but I found a larger diversity of music by doing a web search for music movements.

I have been trying different sites. There are so many it is mindboggling. I already made the jewelry box, so I am going to order another movement and install it. That will probably make a big difference in the sound. Thanks for responding.
Here's one, Bass,
Apparently, they order in to the US regularly

I clicked on Better Music Boxes site. They had just what I was looking for. Thank you.
musical movement that does not cost an arm and a leg & that you can hear....
I think you real problem is the last part...
musical movement that you can hear..
I have only made a few.. Well, two to be exact...
No expert here but... I'll poke my big old nose in anyway..
You need to mount it on a wood that acts like a 'sound board'..
I have no idea which is the best, but ASH is a good resonators, as are other woods. What do they make Xylophone keys from? EXPENSIVE stuff?
All I know is some woods absorb sound.. others.. amplify it!
Wonder why guitars' not made of pine?
Won't find much better than good clear spruce. Not sure how you'd optimize it for being in a box though.
IIRC David Marks did a "drum table" with a maple top. Sounded pretty good.My goal is for my work to outlast me. Expect my joinery to get simpler as time goes by.
I think they make CONGA drumbs fron ASH.. Lucie Ball tolds me...
