I would like to make a music/jewlery box for my wife as a christmas gift and am looking for some help. I want to make it nicer than your basic box but not to ornate. Is there any place I might be able to get some ideas from. Also I want to put our wedding song in there as the song but have been unable to find it (Come Rain or COme Shine, Ray Charles) Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look. I have searched the basic sites that come up on the internet with no luck. Any help would be appreciated!

Hang in there
It is a damb shame you haven't got some help with this project ! Sounds like the perfect project for this web site forum.
If nothing else my comment will BUMP it to the top of the list again.
May have to resort to an iPod, some fine little speaker(s), and a smart mini ipod charger and, ha ha ha , plug in the music box. Might as well put in a little light feature then.
Of course a mechanical brass clock works for the musical feature would be the best.
So sorry I can't help.
Christmas Ideas
Not sure what your skill level is but here are some sources for ideas where you can purchase icons, crucifixes, nativity, ornaments, etc to decorate and inhance your project. These are mail order places = The Printery House, Leaflet Missal, Monastery Icons.
By the way - don't forget to fill the box with jewelry from Tiffanys :>)

Here is one source
Better Music Boxes will make a custom movement for you (http://www.bettermusicboxes.com/Products/Movements/Custom-Arrangements.asp), but they are very pricy and this Christmas is out of the question.

it is probably too late but i'll answer anyway
If i were you i'd go to sanfranciscomusicbox.com and see what they have there. then buy a box with the movement that comes closest to what you'd like, and then pull the movement out of that box and put it into yours. they are easy to pull apart. SF music box used to sell movements alone and they may still do that but you'd have to call. The best mechanical movements are by Reuge of St. Croix Switzerland, as far as i know. http://www.reuge.com/reuge/history this may also give you a link to find a movement - i am not familiar with Sankyo but they may be great, i just have not seen or heard them. http://www.bettermusicboxes.com/Products/Movements/Reuge-vs-Sankyo.asp There are places in the US that sell those movements online - http://www.giftsonline.net/catalog/Music_Box_Movements.html is one. Check them out carefully. The big thing is, when you build a box, keep it simple. the more glue and the more layers, the more insulated the sound will be - for fullest sound keep the wood a good resonator by reducing the layers and the glue, etc. Good luck.
