I just unloaded my Unisaw and can’t wait to make sawdust. After reading many of the tablesaw posts, I was considering purchasing an imported saw but couldn’t pass up a deal on the Unisaw. Would like to have some ideas for projects.
Thanks,
Dave Koury

Dave,
I love it! Guess it is new to you. Project suggestion: remove rust, polish top, repaint base, post picture of completed job.
Jeff
P.S. Please do not post a little note saying "BYTW, I picked it up an auction for $250." Should you do so, the death penalty will be applied.

It's a 1942 vintage, 1hp, 1725rpm, three phase
With the inspiration I've received here I busted my rear this last weekend and rebuilt the Unisaw. Teardown, sandblast, paint, bearings, motor, belts and you name it. Drank a pot of coffee per hour and between bathroom trips was able to complete the job in 48 hours. Fastest of the 14 I've done, oops.
No, I didn't pay $250 at auction but I did pay $200 with fence and cast motor cover. Wish it was at an auction, would have paid less.
Dave,
Beautiful job, and congratulations on the great deal. Thomas Moser in his book How To Build Shaker Furniture, describes the two Unisaws he has in his shop: one, an older vintage model that has served him well many years; the other, a newer model about which he has little good to say. Looks like you got a good one at a fraction of the price of a new one.

I think I would consider changing the color of the top. The burnt sienna is nice, but a flat steel gray is not bad either. Enjoy. 3ph?
DJK- I just refinished a 1950's Delta contractor's saw. Believe it or not the top was worse than what is shown in your photo.
Hint: You may want to read my recent post on bringing that top back to life. I used a combination of Boeshield rust remover, steel wool, mineral spirits and 4 grades of sandpaper (240, 400, 600 and 800) to bring it back to a like new top. Good luck!
Dave,
Gee, that looks a great deal like my "new" Unisaw! Mine is a July, 1950 model and it's almost ready to put the table back on. It's been bead blasted and painted; has new belts and bearings and I had the table reground. I'm going to invest in a new fence and miter gage before I put it into action.
Hope you have as much with yours as I've had with mine! Enjoy!
Mack
Get yourself over to owwm.com , many of these people are Unisaw fanantics, and can help you immensly. They also have a Yahoo news group thingy to partake in. Nice saw, good luck.
