I’m in the market for a 23 guage nailgun. Anyone have an opinion about which brands are reliable and which to avoid?

I have a Porter Cable-it works fine but if I had it to do over, I would get one that can use pins longer than one inch. I am not a pro, so I don't use it a lot.
I have 2 Cadex guns and they are very satisfactory. Pins up to 1 3/8" long. Cost about $125. If you have the cash to spring for the best, probably Nikle.

love my porter cable. use it for all kinds of things you would never imagine. pmm

I have the Cadex CP23.35, shots nails up to 1 3/8", great gun, I've shot the PC and Sencos and they don't compare.
I see now Cadex is making a 23 g. that shots a 2" nail, I cant imagine needing that but there it is!
Heard great things about the Grex, Max and Nikle.

I have the Senco and it has been a work horse. I filed down the nose to make it set pins a little better but other than that I have had no problems. JLC and Gary Katz did a review of various models and the Cadex rated the best because of its ability to also shoot slight head brads. The Grex, Max, and Cadex all come out of the same factory so are essentially the same gun.

There are a lot of similarities but I've been told by someone at Cadex that they are speced different. As you mentioned the Cadex can shot slight headed nails, the Max IMO is the Rolles Royce of nail guns but all three that you mentioned are pretty good guns.
Someone at Floyd Tools told me that the Nikle (sp?) and the Bostich were the same gun with the exception of some slight modifications that make the Nikle a far sight better.
You mention the tool review by Katz, I don't hold any tool review that is published in any of these mags with any regard. Its simply one mans opinion of the tool.
Andy Engle did the jig saw review a few months back and proclaimed the Bosch the better jigsaw. I wouldn't trade you 10 Bosch jigsaws for the one Festool that I have. Its all one mans opinion of a particular tool.

Own the Grex, have owned the accuset (previous Senco model). Prefer the grex, sets all pins, shoots em up to 1 3/8" long.
light, and has a very cool double trigger, vs. a bump tip allowing you to get VERY close and accurate.
