I want to get a framing nail gun, but want to know if I can get a gun that will also be able to hang Hardiplank lap siding. I will be blind nailing the Hardiplank, which recommends 2″ long, round head siding nail or a 1-1/4″ long 11 guage roofing nail. Also, I am considering using a stainless steel nail for the siding. Is there a single nail gun that will do the framing and siding? Any brand name recommendations, or advice about what to stay away from? I much prefer a round-headed nail for framing. What about the compressor? What is the minimum CFM at 90 psi that I should be looking at?
Thanks for any help.

The only one I know is the hitachi siding/framing nailer. It's a coil nailer that will run up to a 3" round head nail. I know a few people that have hitachi siding nailers and they love them, I have the framers and they are bullet proof.
For a compressor, if your doing framing I would go with a two stack I think the cfm's are usually in the 5 or 6 range. A pancake will work but you'll need to let it catch up if you move at a decent speed.

Thank you for the reply. I will check out hitachi.
No problem. Hitachi makes a really nice gun.
I've done hardie a few times. You might be better off getting a roofing gun or borrowing it if you can and getting whatever you want for a framer. For hardie I've used the roofing nails, I thin they are easier to set flush and roofing nails are about $30 for a box of 7600 and SS siding nails are over $100 for a smaller box. The extra money for nails would pay for the roofer easily. Although you might want the siding nailer for the trim.
The hardie looks great blind nailed. To me its the best siding option.
Thank you again.
Hey Chaz
Are u a contractor or homeowner?
I am a Remodeling Contractor and all my guns are Senco. I do a lot of jobs in Hardie, so I use Senco SCN65; It is coil nailer that drives 11, 11-1/2 and 12-1/2 Gauge. Round-Head Nails. 2"—3-1/2" 6d to 16d Nail Range. Capacity 250—275. and then I use galv. or s.steel ring shank (stainless steel nails by the ocean). If you r a weekend remodeler I would use a Makita hot-dog type compressor. If you r Contractor I would purchase Dewalt D55-155 compressor, Makita is less weight then the Dewalt but Dewalt is oil-lubricated. That's my "opinion" but ALWAYS! make sure that you read the instruc. to find out the p.s.i.
Peace

I'm a home owner. This will be my third total rehab, but all the other siding jobs I've done were done by hand hammer. Thanks for the reply.
