I am rather new to woodworking and am considering the purchase of a finish / brad nailer combo kit from either bostich or porter-cable. Leaning more towards the bostich. Both have a 2hp peak, 6 gallon pancake compressor. The question I have is this… would this compressor also be capable of running a framing nailer for general home improvement use. Not all out construction, but some light work if I would need it in the future. Any other recommendations are also appreciated.

You'll be fine running a framing nailer for light work at least on the Porter Cable. I have the PC, I assume the Bostich is the same rating. If you do much work with it, you'll need to work a little slower to give it time to catch up. But if you were like I do, it's really not much of an issue.
I am not familiar with the specs of those pancake compressors but would like to add that oiless compressors tend to be very noisy and shorter lived than oil lubed piston type.I suggest you listen to them running before purchase.Installing trim all day and the sound becomes an issue. My framing guns use about 0.1 cf of air @ 100psi per shot so unless you are bounce nailing sheathing it should keep up .

I use the PC in my renovating business and run a Hitachi stick nailer off of it with no problem at all. I am not a framer by trade, but do a fair amount of it as part of my jobs. Haven't had a problem to date. It does get noisy sometimes because it always has to pump up with air because to the draw by the nail gun but other than that it is fine.

Hi AdmSteck,
If you do light jobs with a framing gun, no problem. If you want to do something that approaches production work, like sheathing, that pancake will start running continuously and still won't be able to keep up. I've got and used Bostitch over the years and will keep using them.
Here are some specs for Bostitch
2 H.P. 6 Gallon Pancake
3.4 CFM @ 40 PSI
2.7 CFM @ 90 PSI
2 H.P. 4.5 Gallon Stack
4.9 CFM @ 40 PSI
4.1 CFM @ 90 PSI
1.5 H.P. 8 Gallon Wheelbarrow
7.6 CFM @ 40 PSI
6.5 CFM @ 6.5 PSI
5.5H.P. 8 Gallon Gasoline Power Wheelbarrow
14.6 CFM @ 14.6 PSI
13.4 CFM @ 13.4 PSI

I've got the porter-cable and use it with a framing gun often. It does fine but I wouldnt buy it again. Its pretty cheaply made and falling apart after only 2 years. Also its really loud.
I would reccomend spending a little more in the beginning and going with a thomas. The thomas pancake is really quiet, good cfm, faster refresh rate, amd lightweight. And they last forever. Amozon has them for around 300.
measure once
scribble several lines
spend some time figuring out wich scribble
cut the wrong line
