A couple of questions related to the restoration of a 110 year old wood frame building in the Berkshires of Massachusetts.
The framing is Hemlock (I think) and is dry and brittle. What kind of nails should I use when attaching new framing to the old frame? With practically no moisture in the wood, I doubt that cement coated would be useful. I need to avoid splitting. I would like to use my nail gun. Any suggestions?
Second, I am thinking seriously about using AZEK for the water table and corner boards. My run is 38+ feet long. AZEK says their glue will insure all AZEK to AZEK joints are permanent bonds. Can I glue the joint between the corner board and water table and expect that expansion and contraction will not open a seam or give me other problems? (corner boards on both ends of the water table of course).

Same nails as you would use for new framing lumber. Azek specifys that 1/8" expansion in 20'-0".Flash behind corner boards and leave a 1/8" caulk joint on each end, glue the splice together, do not glue to the corner boards.

Thank you for the reply. I appreciate the help.
I used the azek preformed corners and had to glue their butt joint as they did not come longer than 10'. During the cold weather they separated 3/16 of an inch or so, I used the glue that was provided.
Thanks for the reply. The corner boards now are available in 20 foot lengths.
