need 2 table saw cuts but have no woodshop in LA
Hi everyone,
I’m wondering if anyone would know who to turn to.. I have a piece of plywood I need to cut for a shelf, but I don’t have access to a shop anymore. I would do it by hand, but I know it wouldn’t be as clean.. In short, I’m wondering if anyone would know if there are table saws or wood shops in LA/Hollywood area that would do the favor of cutting a piece in a couple minutes..? I don’t think I’ll ever need a wood shop again so buying a membership to a communal woodshop seems excessive, just as buying even a cheaper $200 table saw. Feels like a stupid question, but I couldn’t find anything online, and Home Depot won’t cut it of course.

Instead of asking online, I’d suggest asking among your friends. Even if none of them have a table saw, there’s at least a modest chance that one will have a circular saw. That used in combination with a long enough straight edge and something with a square corner should enable you to cut a shelf or two from a sheet of plywood. A clamp or two (even just small spring clamps) might help, too. Heck, you could buy an inexpensive Ryobi corded circ. saw, a yardstick, a couple spring clamps, and a cheap square for under $75 at that Home Depot place.
Wait. There are people who don't own table saws? Who are these people?
I believe Harrison Ford has tablesaw.
But Luke doesn't need one.
I don't own a table saw. When I work with plywood (backs of cabinets, drawer bottoms, etc), I cut with a hand saw and then use a hand plane to clean up the edge. Prior to sawing, I use a knife to score the wood so that it doesn't get all ragged. It really works well and I have used this also on breaking down full 4x8 sheets of plywood.
I'm in Beaumont, a bit of a drive. But, you're welcome to come on by and I'll gladly cut it for you.
If you have a circular saw, use a straight edge and you can get darn close to the same quality of cut.
