Greetings folks –
Being primarily a nail bender, I’m usually over at Breaktime, but this question might fly better here …
Daughter picked up a ’60-ish writing desk, a real mid-century modern piece, for her college apartment. Wants to update drawer pulls to clean, contemporary stainless or nickel. Originals are 4-1/2″ between holes. I’m having no luck whatsoever finding anything that size. Any hot leads out there?
Thanks in advance!
Bruce

Tubular wire pulls come in polished brass, brushed brass and bright or brushed chrome. The rod material is about 1/4" diameter brass.
They are modern looking and are crafted with 90 deg radioused bends at the mounting ends. I bought some in Lowes.
In the event you can't get 4-1/2", they do have matching washers to use on the 4" size ones and will cover thr existing holes when you drill for the NEW 4" center holes.
There are also matching drilled (two hole) plates (Escutcheons)that will cover old holes Steinmetz.

Give Lee Valley tools they have a large hardware catolog. Also Whitechapel they have a very large catolog of all kinds of knobs and handles. There catolog is very nice because everything is photographed in Actual size.

Hi Bruce, as has already been suggested Lee Valley tools has an extensive supply of hardware. If you sign onto Lee Valley.com and click on "item search" then enter the paremeters of your search ie: 41/2" pull this will bring up the choices they have that will fit your existing holes. From there is a matter of deciding if there's anything you like. (not much in that size)
Cheers Dale.
You are a lucky man today! I recently researched this for a customer. Tough going, there are few choices, but there are a few. In addition to these two there are some adjustable center handles available... they seem pretty modern looking though.
