There is a finish out that is a waterbase hybird varnish called Oxford hybird varnish. Jeff Jewwitts company carries it( Homestead finishes) It will dry in an hour to recoat and will darken like oil base products. If you are going to spray it. I cut the first two coat with 25% water then sand with 220 and spray two to three coats cut with
15% water. Do not spray more than that the finish will start to yellow on you. If you are using minwax stain do not use this product. It can be shot over oil base stain if you let them dry over nite. One good trick is to warm the finish up before you use it, the flow rate is better.
Good luck

*Gray, I just completed a walnut drop-front desk on which I used the following:Minwax Fast-Drying Polyurethane Clear Semi-GlossI'm so happy with it, applied with a bristled brush, that it's my finish of choice.Dale in NM
*PS, don't use the spell-checker before you post a message. It changed "Gary" to "Gray" without my vote.Dale
