Need advice on selecting Jointer options
I’m looking to purchase a 6″ jointer, and the 2 Grizzly models I’m considering are roughly the same price. One has a 55″ parallelogram table and straight knives, the other model has a 46″ table and a spiral cutterhead.
Would I be better off with the longer, parallel table or the spiral cutterhead?
Thanks in advance for the advice!

My choice would be the long bed for a couple of reasons. 1. I work alone and 75% of the time I struggle with long boards and roller stands just don't work well when accuracy is necessary. 2. New machine castings just arn't aged the way they should be. They should be cast and stuck out in the yard for a year of more to age and "settle in" and then machined. The Parallelogram design will give you a method to adjust the bed to be coplaner. Though they can be a pain to adjust, a very good straight edge is necessary.
The spiral head would be a GREAT bonus and I would love to have the feature, but for me the long bed would trump it.
But another option would be to look on craigs list or OWWM for used old Iron and save a few $$$$$$$$. I love old "Arn"
I went for the bed
When I bought my 12" about 5 years ago I had to make a similar decision. I wanted the parallel design incase I needed to adjust, but to be honest its not made any difference since it's never been adjusted since I owned it. I have the 4 hss knives in mine and I've pushed a lot ob wood across it with no issues at all. Not had to run a large bit of figured stuff where I think the spiral head shines so I truly can't answer the question. If given the choice longer infeed outfeed tables is a winner. Good luck post pic's of the new toy so we can all see it.

FWIW, I agree - go for the longer bed if you have room for it.
The order is in.......
Thanks guys. I placed the order for the longer bed model this morning. I should have something to play with after Christmas!
