I have a sample of a wood named “cerezo” but have had difficulty in finding any information about it or its formal Latin name. I believe it is South American in origin. Would anyone have this information?
Also, I am interested in locating an identification service for such samples and was hoping that someone may have an address of one. I have not had much luck surfing the web, usually finding the more common species.
Thank you for you time in this matter.

I understand you can send a samplt to the Forest Products Research Lab in Madison, WI to have it identified. They have lots of other info also. They must have a web site?

1234, unfortunately the common name cerezo is used to describe a number of woods in at least four quite unrelated families. It is often used for tropical members of the Rose family related to cherry and plum, but there are several others that are quite different in terms of color, texture and density. If you could describe the wood or have some background info on where it came from, I might be able to nail down at least the right botanical family.
Mr Arno,
Thank you for your reply to my inquiry and thank you for your effort on my behalf.
Respectfully,
