Howdy all, I am new to this fourm but not to woodworking. My wife and I recently moved into a new house that has a large basement that I have set up my shop in. Now that I have the room I’m in the market for a bandsaw but not being wealthy I’m looking for a used one. I would appreciate any advise on brands I should look at and what problems I should keep an eye out for when looking at them. Thank you in advance.

Geee... What a loaded question... LOL....
Can you post a price you are willing to pay/afford and then maybe we/us go from there.
Also what are you planning to use it for?? I bought an old 20" delta on Ebay and have been very happy with it.
Look at the Grizzly GO555 "Ultimate Bandsaw".
All the features.. lowest price.
I have one and it's great. If you can afford to kick in the extra money for the riser kit.. you've got a 12" cutting capacity.
I think the best all-around choice would be a used Delta 14" band saw. There are a lot of them around, blades and parts are easy to come by, and it's a good machine. Pre-1970 used ones are perhaps the best but keep in your mind that you probably will have to replace bearings. This isn't hard, and there are a lot of resources on the web too.
If you want something bigger, the 20" Delta is a wonderful machine, and the sheet metal frame makes it "light" enough to be movable into a home shop. It stands 6'6 and weighs about 600 lbs fully assembled, so take that into consideration if your shop is in a basement or up a hill. I can tell you from experience that with the motor and the table off, it's still a very unwieldy package. Be aware that guides for certain years are difficult to come by, so check whether the machine has them before buying.
Pete
