Looked at a number of woodworking web site catalogues, tried Dogpile search, and emailed a number of on-line hardware suppliers but haven’t been able to find brass thumbscrew. Making a cherry music stand for a customer and zinc thumbscrew functional but not pretty. Option seems to be Beall 1/2″ woodthreading kit but hoping not to have to learn another tool just now. Thanks. Don

Thx; I've certainly bookmarked that site. It downloads in a PDF format; quite handy.
Please add my thanks Del. Had forgotten about McC several years ago. Unbelievable collection of materials and supplies. Don
Don, i made a couple music stands with set screws to hold both the vertical and tilt mechanisms within brass threaded inserts. I used a very nice, solid brass oval cabinet pull for the knob with a bolt epoxied into it, then ground off the bolt head and shank until it was the proper length for my use. I used a brass wear strip to screw it against for infinite adjustment from seated to standing height. It worked very well as the oval is easier to grasp than a round and it looked better than a normal thumbscrew.
I cannot take the credit for this one... Although I appreciate your thanks, I am not the first on to mention McMaster-Carr on this forum. And yes....it is a great resourse...If I am looking for a special fastener, air-fiting, or any other small part and I can't find it in their catalog, then I immediately know that I have a very long search on my hands.
Have a good day.
