I’m in the middle of making a shaker table as shown on page 257 in “The Book of Shaker Furniture” by John Kassay. It is knock down construction using 3/8″ bolts and square nuts. However I’d like to use cross dowel nuts; but I can not find any with a 3/8-16 thread. I’ve searched the web; found some in Canada, but you have to buy a truck load. I also got some advice to have them made at a machine shop, since I only need 6. Does anyone now where I can buy them??

Have a drill press? You can easily make them. Hacksaw, drill press, tap, tap drill. Done before you could even place the order. Brass is even easier to work. Learing some basic metal working techniques is well worth the time.
I do have a drill press. Learning new skills is certainly an option. If I can't locate them then this sounds like a solution. Thanks
Lee Valley lets you buy them individually or in multiples.

I did contact the tech people at Lee Valley, however they don't have the size I need. Thanks for the info and link too.
Check the bed bolts at Lee Valley.
I called the tech people at Lee Valley and they said they don't carry the size I'm looking for.
They don't list them seperately, but they have sets of four bolts with dowel nuts for joining bed rails to the head and foot boards. They don't say exactly what thread size they are, but they are 1/2-diameter and go into a 9/16 hole. From that, I'm guessing they are close to 3/8 thread. Even if they are something slightly smaller, I doubt the table joint could have any more load on it than the ones in a bed that they are designed for, and would guess they will be more than sufficient.
Good logic. I'm making a table; not a bed. So that should do the job. Thanks.
Thanks to all !
You were correct! I finally contacted a tech at Lee Valley that gave me the corect information; they do have exactly what I need. As you said ! So on with the project !!
I've made these myself on many occasions. Brass rod is easy to cut, drill, and tap, without special tools. Just buy the tap you need. Only problem is that with a steel bolt the brass may seize after many years. I've also used a hard plastic rod instead of the brass. (Don't know what kind of plastic it was) It worked beautifully, but I admit it's got no class.

Thanks for the advice! Nice site!!!!!!!!!!
Hex coupling nuts (Any hardware store. 5-16/18 is available. You'll have to cross bore and tap for the side screw/bolt. They are hexagon, but can be turned round on a lathe. Been there done that Steinmetz.
Thanks for the info.
