I recently tuned up my bandsaw which I’ve had for many, many years and hardly ever used it because I was never happy with the results. A few months ago I tuned it up according to an article in FWW #173 by Michael Fortune. I bless that man every time I use that bandsaw! I use more than I use my TS. When I bought the saw, between 15 and 20 years ago I never got a fence and never missed it since I used the machine so seldom. Now that I have been enlightened I find I need one. I tried the Delta web site but could get nowhere.
Any suggestions to find a Delta fence or any after market unit?

I can't really help you just yet. I have the Jet 14in bandsaw and just bought the Kreg Fence for $99. It was set up at the store and seemed very solid and was very adjustable to align squareness and perpendicularity of the blade. It seems very well built. I'm excited to give it a try, but first I want to tear down and tune my saw. (thanks for the FWW reference). It really seems like a nice fence.
I'd like to hear from others whom have bought and used it.
Thanks Ken...I would really like to know how that Kreg fence works. If you attach a high auxilary fence to it when you resaw something, does the top of the fence deflect or does it remain rock solid? Let me know how it works out. Where did you get it?
I 'd like to hear from anyone else who's had experience with the Kreg fence or any other they have used.
Thanks......................Len
I have it in its previous Fast Track configuration. It has certainly done what I've asked of it. I have the basic (the shorter one) resaw curved gizmo, and it works as advertised. If, for some reason, I needed another fence I would confidently purchase another, in the current, Kreg, format.
Hope this helps.
Len,
If your thinking about resawing, I'd think a bit more before buying an aftermarket fense.
For good quality outcomes, I'm learning that consistent pressure and feed rate across the face of the stock is important and having the stock properly supported helps in that process. I belive John White did an article a couple of years ago in FWW on adding infeed and outfeed extensions to the BS. Also, a tall fense with a cutout( to accomodate the mechanism works quite well. Earlier this week one(or last week) of our Knots posters presented a featherboard(piece of formica) that he uses in resawing...great idea. At any rate, you can see where I'm going, no aftermarket fense would accomodate those modifications.
I got the fence at Woodcraft. They had it set up on a Jet bandsaw, like my own. They recently had the Rep in there, so the Salesman was all excited about showing me all the tricks to setting it up and using it, which was nice. He said its all in the manual, but it was nice to have it demonstrated. It comes with t-slots on the face for a curved resaw attachment, but the Rep told him you can tune the fence so well it really isn't needed, but they sell them because people want them. There is also a micro-adjust that's a seperate option. It comes with a magnified precision tape and the fence can be flipped over so it is only 1/2 or so high for low profile work.
Len,
I have the Delta fence that came with the 14" bandsaw and, like others, have upgraded it with a high fence with cutout for resawing.
You can find it on Amazon easily enough (I did a search on "delta bandsaw fence") and came up with:
Delta 28-858 Universal 24" Fence for 14" Band Saw
Good luck.
Len,I have the Kreg fence on my 14" Delta and have been very happy with it. It seems to be precisely built and is very easy to adjust. I like the ability to flip it to a "low-profile" setup for thin stock.

So is a hunk of wood that is FLAT and clamped to the table!
A band saw is like a woman.. You have to talk her into going in a straight path!
I have been trawling e-bay for a bandsaw and saw a fence for a Delta 14" bandsaw for sale. I don't know the details, but I am sure it is worth checking out. Search for bandsaw fence delta and I am sure it will come up
Good luck
Thanks guys...you're all wonderfull as always! I'm going to check E-bay as well as find a store me to take that Kreg in hand. I'll be back when Ihave more info and let you know what I wind up doing.
Thanks to all......................Len
I have the Fasttrack on an ancient (late 40's) 14" metal cutting Delta w/ the riser block. I was cutting some veneer for some walnut side table aprons 3 1/4" wide by 10" long. I went thru 1 1/2 10/4 chunks and yielded 1 out of the 5 that I needed. Last weekend I cut 3 with very little hassle and hadn't changed the set-up. I'd get within a couple of inches of the end and the saw right through the face. I tried to adjust for drift and play with the tension and all I was getting was exquisitly figured, air dried, old growth walnut tapered shim stock, higher blood pressure and cussing a blue streak (with purple highlights). I took a break, had a Newcastle and remembered the tall curved Fastrack resaw fence. Yeah somebody's horrified about the beer and the bandsaw but 1 ale in 280 lbs is like just like a kid pissing in a Jacuzzy, your not gonna feel it. Suitably refreshed and calmed, I dialed the tension back down and scribed an eyeballed 16th and cut a near perfect piece. Face jointed and did another and ... went 5 for 5 and had an extra. That curved resaw fence did the trick.
Tried another FWW tip: The walnut has really swirly figure and was tearing out on the jointer (I got to get those Tersa blades for that thing real soon). I was wishing I had a Performax ShopPro when I remembered the trick. Got a sponge and water and wett the wood down for each pass with the jointer set to shave and got the tearout withing what I could sand out of 1/16" bandsawn veneer.John O'Connell - JKO Handcrafted Woodworking

We trained hard, but it seemed that every time we were beginning to form up into teams, we would be reorganized. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganizing; and a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while producing confusion, inefficiency, and demoralization.
