I am a relative novice to cabinet level wood working and I have been building a tool cabinet. I used hand cut dovetails to join the maple door frames at the corners(the doors are 3 1/2″ deep). Today one of the doors fell from the bench smashing the corner of the frame. The damage is right at the dovetail joint and is on the face corner of the frame. It is smashed approximately 3/4″ back from the corner, about 1/2″ to the rear of the frame and about 1/2″ deep at the corner tapering to the undamaged area. I have spent a great deal of time constructing these doors and used some beautiful mahogany for inlaid veneer so I am reticent to trash the door or build a new one (I have a very limited supply of this particular mahogany). I would appreciate any tips on how I might repair this problem or if I need to bite the bullet and build a new door

Greg,
Would it be possible for you to run the damaged piece through your TS to "shave" off the damaged area so that it has chamfer? If so, you could glue on a matching piece and use a block plane to "blend" it into the frame.

*DanoThanks for your response to my question. Since the dovetail halfpin and the first tail rear of the face are damaged pretty badly I dont think chamfering and replacing would work. This corner will be right in my face as I open the cabinet and I would constantly be reminded of my f-up. I have decided to bite the bullet and build a new door, I will pull the veneered panel out and reuse on another small cabinet for lathe tools. I do appreciate your trying to help.
