Bought a used Performax 16-32 drum sander and replaced conveyor belt. I am having no luck adjusting the belt tension and tracking. I am doing as manual says, adjusting to equal tension on both sides. I am unable to stop belt from tracking out from motor side machine. I am tightening backup screw on that side and loosening oposite in one quarter turn increments. Keep redoing to no avail, still drifts out.
Is there a trick to this adjustment? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

I have the 10-20, and dialing in the tracking is a tricky matter of finesse. Don't loosen the one side too much, or it won't have the needed tension. Try just making tightening the recommended side by really small amounts, like 1/8 turn, while running. Even when it is dialed in, be prepared to retouch it periodically.
Also, make sure the belt is installed correctly, there should be a directional arrow inside. If its on backwards, it will never track right. (Mine came installed wrong and self destructed soon after. I got Jet to replace it after I had already bought a new belt, and saw the arrow pointing the other way on the old belt.)

Thanks, I will check belt and keep tinkering.
Performax 16-32 belt issues
I've had a 16-32 for years. If I recall, when I first bought/researched it there were others complaining of belt tracking issues.
I think Performax developed a set of "guides" that mounted onto the sides of the table to help the belt track. You might want to search for these guides (and check out if your unit has them). I'll check my unit and old research and see if I can point you closer to an answer.
Ceramic guides
There should be some ceramic guides under the belt on the side edges. Depending on the age of your unit, those guides came out about 8 years ago, prior to that they were an option. Being used the belt may have been stretched more on one side than another (trapezoidal) Flip the belt side for side and see if it doesn't track in the opposite direction, if it does the belt is stretched. Get a new one.
Are you satisfied with the performance of your drum sander now. I'm in the market
