Need help with PC dovetail jig for kids

Hi All I am a high school carpentry teacher aide (voc ed), so the emphasis is on power tools, although in my humble opinion, kids learn more doing dovetails with handtools because of the measuring and hand skills. My Intermediates need to learn as much as can be crammed into four one hour periods per week. Plus, this particular class includes one deaf kid, one hard of hearing and one with ADDH- they come to class with translators and aides, so explaining takes awhile. Been trying to teach myself how to use the Porter Cable dovetail jig- Ya, I know, its maybe not the best but its what I got. No manual, of course. The Porter cable site wants a model number, even tho there’s only one model that I know of. The thing is fussy to set up, but there are several students building the same project, and I want them ending with nicest posible job this jig is capable of. Part of makin a livin is gettin the best out of what you got. Any ideas much appreciated. |

Just be patient. You won't get as many repsonses as during the week. Everyone is busy with week-end things. I'll try to keep this rolled to the top till someone that has the PC jig responds.
Keep PC customer service in mind on Mon.
Good Luck...

What's the Tool Doc Club?

The ToolDoc club is a memoir to a fallen friend that posted here on the forum till several weeks ago. He, I and Forest Girl got to be pretty close freinds. We kidded and joked and were generally silly in fun. You would have to see one of his post to know how the sign-off evolved. He had an un-usual signature.
Go to the thread, "We Have Just Lost One of Our Own" which is currently in the General Disscusion as this thread. Post # 66 will get you a ToolDoc orignial post for his sing-off. The poster is actually ToolDoc's wife Lynne, as ToolDoc has passed recently.
The sign-off is just a tribute to his "spirit" that lives on...

rather than getting the jig to work, you could get the kids to cut their DTs using a bandsaw or table saw. The bandsaw is straight forward, fast and doesn't need a jig. I think the table saw method requires a jig.
