Need help with staining plywood, see pics
My dad and I have been making these floating shelves for my wife. Everything had been going fine until we went to stain them today.
As you can see from the pics, the stain didn’t take very good to the plywood. At this point what can I do to fix it? My wife wants a dark walnut color. Thank you for your help!

I would guess you used an oil based dye stain like the old minwax. Try a light to medium sand with 150 grit and switch to an oil based pigment stain, minwax makes a good one as does Zar. The pigment should enable you to even out the coverage. And good luck, finishing often requires some experimentation.
I've had good results on hard to stain woods using the Poly+Stain products available at the big box stores.
Since the color is in the top coat, and it sits above the wood after the first coat. This give a more even color. It is similar to finishes used in cabinet shops.
