I am wanting to buy a new bandsaw and am confused by all the choices. I guess that is a good thing to have choices but makes a final decision harder. I do quite a bit of resawing of hardwoods and also cut curves for my furniture projects. I need a bandsaw that has at least a 2 hp motor which can be wired for 220 Volts and is accurate when cutting curves. Easy adjustment and blade change is a plus. I would also like this new saw to have a good dust collection option. I currently have an older Jet 14 inch knockoff of a Delta bandsaw but it doesn’t have the power or accuracy I am looking for. Thanks in advance for any good advice. My price range is around $1500.

I have the Laguna 14/12, and its perfect. I do a ton of resawing. The motor is 1.75 hirse, but it cuts through 10 inch cherry like butter. I think its 1200 bucks. The 14/BX comes with a 2.5 up motor for 1500.
I also have the 14/12 which you can find on sale for under $1000. I am very happy with it - it has performed every task I have given it, including resawing 11" boards. Great saw for the price. You may want to step up to the BX to get the brake though.
Thanks for the information. The Leguna is one of the saws I have been seriously considering. I am glad to know it performs well.
I have the SUV version of the Laguna 14". Resaw capacity is the most you'll find in 14" and a 3HP motor wired for 220. Dust collection is excellent even when resawing. Has footbrake with built in power switch. I could not be happier.
Same as MJ. The 14 SUV with a one inch resaw king has given me only satisfaction. I sent the blade for resharpening after 4 years of abuse including cutting logs into planks and resawing Ipe for laminating bent frames. Only drawback is setup time during blade changes . Make sure you see for yourself a SUV and a 14-12, they are both good but you will see they have a different construction.
I have a Powermatic 14β with a riser block. I like it a lot. I did store a Laguna 18β 2hp band saw for a friend. It was a great saw. Hated seeing it go. If I were to buy again I get a Laguna.
Laguna SUV is what I got for Christmas in 2017. It does everything I need, though I haven't tried resawing yet (saving up for the blade). Blade changes are easy enough; setting the guides seems to be a bit trickier, but that could be my lack of experience. I recommend it unreservedly.
Look at the Grizzly 17β extreme-series, itβs a great bandsaw, has plenty of power.
You have a tremendous choice of really fine bandsaws at your fingertips. My father, has a Delta with a riser block and has had it since I was a kid - many decades ago. He still uses it with abandon.
When I got around to dropping some change I purchased the Laguna 18 with a footbrake. For many of the reasons you discussed. I resaw with the Resaw Master, and a couple of different sleds depending on the length of the piece. Bowl blanks are a snap - I don't have to ride my Powermatic around the shop balancing the piece. I do have the unit on a trolley of sorts, so I can move it around my small shop as required.
I've had the opportunity to rebuild a few bandsaws for friends and I still keep coming back to the Laguna.
The long and short of it - put a few extra dollars away and seriously think about the 18. My only criticism - putting a 1/4" blade on the unit is mind numbing. Have never made it work. Oh, one other thing - the 158" blades are a handful - easy to put on and off but a handful nevertheless.
Enjoy whatever choice you make. I've had the Laguna for years with zero issues. My shop is basically centered around the Laguna and the Powermatic.
Thanks all of the thoughtful answer to my bandsaw choice. It looks like the Leguna comes out on top.
