Need plans for CD cabinet, but unusual
*
Would like to find inovative design for CD cabinet to hold 300 cd’s. Could be floor standing or wall hung. Design should be more modern/contempory than traditional but not beyond the skills of an amateur. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I recently (last year) made a CD storage case designed along the lines of a column from the front of a house. I just sketched the column as I thought it should look. I ended up with something that is closer to a pedestal in design. It is about 3.5 feet tall and holds around 100 cd's. The great thing about the cabinet is that the front is covered with door and the hinges are concealed. When the door is closed everyone thinks that it is just a pedestal that supports a speaker for the stereo. This design could be easily enlarged to accommodate the quantity of cd's that you have or you could just build two. I built mine out of black walnut harvested from my yard. It was also my first try at any type of cabinet making. Very simple mortise and tenon joinery was used. Good Luck and have fun.
*Hey davesmith,That pedestal sounds pretty interesting. My wife and I are constantly trying to contain/disguise our CD collection. What sort of styling is the pedestal? Any pictures?
*Thanks for response. I too would like more details. Any way you can post a schematic or?
*I recently finished my CD cabinet. I choose the Apothecary cabinet look. It's about 36 inches square and 18" deep with 25 drawers. It holds about 700 CD's. With 6"X6" drawer fronts and 1/2" thick sides the CD's fit quite nicely. The only trick is that the drawer bottoms need to be placed carefully to allow enough interior height.
*My first project was a cd cabinet last fall, although it is not probably very "unusual," and more "country traditional" than modern. FWIW, you can see it at Country CD CabinetVisit Virtual Fujino, Japan! Green Gables: A Contemplative Companion to Fujino Township
