Someone wants me to make a display flag case for them. Her husband recently died and was buried at Arlington and she received the flag that draped his coffin. I have not seen the flag but she tells me it’s bigger and bulkier then your typical nylon type. Do any of you know where I can get plans for such a project? Thanks.

I googled <woodworking plans flag case>...lots of listings there to wade through.
If she's the widower of a vet, she can probably still get in to AAFES exchanges. Not to take the work from you, but the BX/PX or clothing sales have flag cases all the time, in all kinds of wood and styles. If she's looking for something real out of the ordinary, then build it. If she just wants a nice case, she can probably get it there for less than $100. You've got Langley and a host of other sites not far from Arlington. Langleys BX is one of the larger around.

As far as I know, the flags supplied by the military and by the VFW are all the same size (5 x 9 1/2). If so, there is a nice display case project in the October 02 issue of Wood Magazine. You may find a copy at the library or you can go to the Wood site (www.woodmagazine.com) and order the back issue.
