Need plans for mission-style sleigh bed
Client just asked for a plan and price on a mission style sleigh bed, king size. I would likely either start from either a sleigh bed and add mission elements or make a mission bed into a sleigh style. Didn’t one of the rack mags do an article? I thought that FW had a piece, but it was and A&C bed, by Rogowski, right? In any case, a referral to mission design or a sleigh design would be greatly appreciated.

John, Check out the Grizzly catalog or American Furniture Designs for mission plans. Or, check Amazon. I just bought a used book of 100 mission design/plans for about $9.00 from Amazon and am eagerly waiting the arrival.
With some careful attention to detail perhaps the two styles (mission and colonial) in a combo mission/sleigh bed, could be blended but I must admit to some difficulty in my brain matching the two. Sounds like your client knows what he/she wants however and the 'customer is always right'.
Neat to see how this older furniture style is making a comeback in the current marketplace. I wonder if medieval gothic or baroque pieces will also again become noticed? I hope not.

"but I must admit to some difficulty in my brain matching the two." Ditto. But, as was said, the customer's always right (90% of the time).
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
“As was said, the customer's always right” absolutely, positively, probably not. But you have to go along with their ideas they’re the ones with the checkbook. I do some arts & crafts inspired furniture from time to time and would love to see what you come up with. Keep us informed.
Good luck,

I'm also having a very hard time imaging the marriage of the two styles. I'd love to see the result. I love Mission/Arts&Crafts furniture, and am building some right now for girts and personal use. Most of what I've seen doesn't have curves like a sleigh bed.
There's a very good Arts&Crafts builder in Berkeley, Ca., named, Berkeley Mills. They have a web site with pictures. See

You may get some ideas. Note that they make a bed with curved legs, which is their Japanese influence. My son bought it and it's lovely. (Wish I'd known ahead of time, I could have saved him almost $4000.)
