Folks,
I’m putting together a SketchUp model of a cabinet that I designed. I would like to put some round bottom dados in the sides of the cabinet. I’m having trouble. I think it’s because the front of the cabinet is curved. Specifically, I think the curve on the front edge of the sides is causing the problem.
I have the sides made, and have tried to make the dados in two ways. First, I drew the profile of the dado on the edge of the side and used push/pull. That worked okay, but on the front edge (which is angle b/c of the curve) a bit of the pushed/pulled dado sticks out past the edge. I then made a half cylinder and tried to intersect it with the model. But the inside of the cabinet side would disappear whenever I tried to erase the intersected shape.
Does anyone have an idea on how this should be done? I’ve attached the file if it helps. Thanks, Matt

Well Matt, I think I can help. I suggest that you delete the side you have already. There seems to be something wrong with it's thickness. Perhaps you didn't draw it right the first time. Try it again and do the intersect with model. I got it to work.
Hey, you know what, that advice worked just swell. I did redraw the side and try the intersect with model process again. And this time it worked. I'm glad I was here to give it to myself. --Matt
Matt, I've attached a 4-scene method I would use to do this dado....

Tim,Thanks for the help. I like your method, because I don't have to make the half-cylinders. Also, thanks for giving such a thorough explanation. Definitely above and beyond.I learned drafting and architecture with pencil and paper. That what I'm most comfortable with, but I'm giving SketchUp an honest try. It's little hiccups like this that get me frustrated. Knowing nice little solutions like this one will keep me at it.Thanks,

Matt, don't forget to correct the face orientation if you end up with the blue faces out.
That threw me for a minute, but then I remember you could reverse the faces. Thanks again for the help. This is my personal signature.
Sorry, Matt.
In my template I set the back color to something a bit more obnoxious so that it is easily seen and the reason for seeing it can be corrected. It's not always due to a reversed face. Sometimes it's due to a hole. In anycase it is a good idea to stay on top of those and fix them as you go.
