Hello,
Newbie post. My son is building an Entertainment Center for us. He took some basic ideas from a FINE WOODWORKING article “Engineering an Entertainment Center” by Brooks Tanner. I do not have the date of that issue available.
The article refered to a small optical/electronic component – an infrared receiver – which attaches to the cabinet through a relatively small hole somewhere in the face and allows a standard remote control to operate concealed AV components when the doors are closed. I’ve also heard this item referred to as a remote repeater. I have looked at Woodworkers’ Wharehouse, Radio Shack, and Electronics Superstore without luck for such a device.
Can anyone suggest a source for this item?
Thanks for your help.

The article was in FWW No. 159. December 2002. Page 78. I did not see a supplier for the remote control.
I installed a Niles repeater for our music cabinet about a year ago. No cheap, but good components. Try

Many thanks. The Niles MS-1 looks to be exactly what I want. I appreciate the help.
