Need the name for a simple type of latch
I want to build some small doors for access hatches that will seldom be used. I have in mind to use a very simple latch such as was used on some types of house storm windows 50 years ago. They had a permanent wooden frame mounted to the house, and you inserted either screens or glass windows into the frame. The inserts were held in place by turn fasteners operated with a screwdriver. The fasteners were buried in the frame, and when turned a quarter-turn, engaged a slot in the edge of the insert.
If I knew what these things were called, I could try to locate someone who sells them. Any help?

Mortise latch bolt will do the job Just don't attach the thumb turn. but use the turn as a 'key'only as needed. Steinmetz.
The mortise latch bolts come in narrow backsets and require you to bore only two holes then, tap into place using a hammer and a block of wood .
Thanks. That could be a workable alternative.

I know what you are talking about, however those were on failrly thick stock
This may be an alternative: - it would be surface mounted though

Thanks for the idea. I am trying to make it hidden, though.

Try doing an internet search for a concealed cam latch. I think you'll find plenty to choose from. Just a thought.
Here is an actual url
