need to decide how to cut the profile
hello again to all, the attatched pix is a drawing to one of my customers of a side view of a fireplace mantel. i need to decide how to cut the profile of the “molding” hopefully without having knives cut. the profile is about 7-8″. any advice on how to do this? thanks again!

The shelf can be milled with a half-round shaper or router bit, what ever the dimension, say 3/4 or 1"
The upper crown can be milled on the ts using a cove-cutting technique, basically attaching a fence askew to the blade and cutting only a 1/16 each pass.(FWW explains it in more detail.)
The lower crown can be milled by building a jig with a curved top so that the router is locked stationary, as you move the stock through, but is moved little by little for each pass with a straight cutter to create the convex profile.
File and sand.

thanks for your reply, the upper profile of course is not the issue & i thought the same as you about the table saw & similiarilly about using a router on the bottom radius but i am having a hard time picturing how to build the jig.
Cut out the profile to a heavy paper template. The jig would look something like a cylinder cut in half lengthwise with a hole cut thru where the bit is locked in place incrementally, like stones on an archway.
The top part of the profile appears to be a standard window sill profile. You can cut this with a routerbit in a table. Do this in two or more passes. Set the bit up for height, set fence for half a cut. Then a full cut. Although it is possible to do this in one cut with a 3hp router, the router is under strain and the bit will dull quicker.
